Health Benefits of Strawberries

The health benefits of strawberries are relatively unknown, even though strawberries are our favorite berry.

Strawberries are a rich source of the phenols anthocyanins (especially anthocyanin 2) and ellagitannins. They give the strawberry its beautiful red color, and they are potent antioxidants. Antioxidants help protect cells and the body's organs from oxygen damage.

Strawberries' high levels of phenol also protect the heart, helps prevent cancer, and may fight inflammation caused by rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, asthma, atherosclerosis, and cancer.

Due to the high levels of vitamin C in strawberries, one of the benefits of strawberries may be protection against rheumatoid arthritis.
